Pickleball?
Pickleball was born on Bainbridge Island, Washington, during the summer of 1965 by three friends with their sites on a game of badminton, only to find the shuttlecock MIA. With necessity as the mother of invention, the trio lowered the badminton net, fashioned some paddles from plywood scraps, and with a Wiffle ball, created a tennis mix of ping-pong and badminton.
A Short Learning Curve
Pickleball is played on a badminton-sized court by either two or four players. Because it is relatively easy to learn and requires only a moderate athletic prowess, the game first took hold within senior citizen communities and nursing homes.
Recent Explosive Growth According to the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA), the sport has had a 650 percent increase in numbers over the last six years with substantial growth amongst younger players.
